To what extent does Shelly mentioning the mental capabilities of the monster aid in him appearing human? Does this trait prove that the monster is truly a human who has been ostracized by society because of his outward appearance?
"My days were spent in close attention, that I might more speedily master the language; and I may boast that I improved more rapidly than the Arabian. "(106)
I absolutely love your insight within the character of the monster. I too saw some humanized characteristics within the monster because he received a big "hit" from society for what he truly looks like and is. Because he learned how society truly views him, learning the language and being in close attention would make him more like the humans. Frankenstein is truly human, he was invented from a dead persons' remains, all he is trying to do now is find himself within the cruel society were he lives in. Shelley mentioned his mental capabilities to make him seem more human, although, realistically his is not.
ReplyDeleteWhen Shelley mentions the mental capabilities the monster has one can see that he had human like traits because he now understands how humans think and feel. Although the monster had human like abilities and is also constructed with human like features society does not see him as human because of his outward appearance . Although he is able to learn speech similar to that of an infant , and try to appear as a gentle creature no-one shall see him for more than what he is, a monster
ReplyDelete@ Jazmine Freeman, Frankenstein was not made from a dead persons remains lol.
