A heavy storm or storm indicates a change in the story. This event was foreshadowing that the monster was coming and the life of Elizabeth was soon to expire. When the clouds blackened the sky, fears came on to Victor like he knew something was going to happened. He said " this night and all will be safe; but this night is dreadful, very dreadful." That quote was said before the death of his wife.

ReplyDeleteI agree with Reeves that the quote "Suddenly a heavy storm of rain descended." is a form of foreshadowing. Rain and storms are big signs of something bad happening therefore the foreshadowing. Just like when Frankenstein first created the monster it stormed, and bad things happened after. " I beheld the wretch, the miserable monster I created." (106 Shelley). " William is dead." (140 Shelley)
ReplyDeleteIn a sense of foreshadowing the rain indicates that something bad has happened
ReplyDeleteOr getting ready to happen...in this case it's the death of his wife.
ReplyDeleteThe sudden heavy storm of rain foreshadows the monster's path toward destruction.
ReplyDeleteShe could have stated that to add to the Gothic theme of the book. To give the readers a feeling of suspense that something was going to happen by a demonstration of a "scary" form of nature. It can definitely be inferred that it was to be a foreshadowing event that something bad was getting ready to happen or has happened.
