Is the truth always "needed"? In a relationship
(whether friendship or romantic) is it up to the party that possesses the truth
to decide whether the receiver deserves or can handle the truth? Was the fact
that Victor withheld the truth from Elizabeth merely to protect her? What other
factors caused him to keep the truth for so long?
Although the truth is always necessary in a strong relationship, the truth receiver may not be able to handle the truth. The truth holder has the complete power to decide if the receiver can handle the truth. Victor withheld the truth from Elizabeth because he feared what she would think of him if he revealed the truth. Guilty and reputation are other factors that influenced Victor's decision but fear was the main factor that caused him to withhold the truth.
ReplyDeletehow does the truth holder has the complete power to decide if the receiver can handle the truth. it should be the other way around right? the receiver should know whether or not if they can handle whats coming to them and after they are told the truth they decide on how they should take it right?
DeleteI totally agree with you Daniel that fear was a major factor in why Victor withheld the truth yet why did he assume that the monster was coming for him on his wedding night? The bride is the most important person in the wedding right?
DeletePeople always says that the truth hurt. But wont you rather be hurt by the truth than to be hurt by the lie later on in the future. In friendships and relationships with a spouse, family member or anyone else honesty is the best thing to go for. Now the truth may not always be needed or necessary but in order to keep a healthy friendship or relationship you should be 100% with each other no matter if he/she can handle it or not. Now I understand why Victor kept the truth away from Elizabeth because of consequences it might cause between them two. They could be many reason why he kept the truth away from her but if he did tell her things would've been different and better even if it was to protect her.
ReplyDeleteTruth is a very debatable issue. Any relationship romantic or non romantic. Many people believe that in order for a relationship to be successful one needs to know the truth. Where as others simply state what one does not know it will not hurt them. It is certainly up to the party who holds the truth to decide whether or not to tell. However Victor Simply did not tell the truth because of fear. when one fears the consequences would they honestly be truthful?
ReplyDeleteAlthough the opposing party may not be able to handle the truth, and truth hurts, I believe it is always in someones best interest to tell the truth whether it hurts or not. Victor's reasoning for withholding the truth from Elizabeth was solely because he was afraid of her reaction and what she would now think of Victor. Other factors that caused Victor to withhold the truth were guilt and trying to uphold his reputation. Victor did not want to have to deal with a guilty conscience before getting married and wanted to uphold the well reputation that he had already established.
ReplyDeleteHowever, if one lies, that is establishing a bad reputation. Right?
DeleteThat shows that Victor is willing to lie at all costs.
The truth should be a factor in all types of relationships, romantic or friendship. Even though it's hard to say or hard to take in as the person that has to hear it. Most of the places have to be said with the consideration that the other and at times just hearing from the beginning has a better outcome than being lied to. If the truth isn't being put in a relationship anymore than it's about time to get rid of them. Victor is using lying as a form of protection of Olivia from consequences that can effect the, which is one of the very few reasons that some one should lie but even in that case tell that person what is going on ,
ReplyDeleteThe truth is very much needed in order to develop a strong relationship whether it be between two spouses, friends, coworkers, etc.. And although anybody that is withholding information should share it with the necessary person, when it comes to revealing the truth, the person that posses the truth ultimately has all the power. Think about it. The only way the other party can even determine if they are able to handle the truth is if they are aware something is being kept from them. And most of the time, people keep the truth in order to protect themselves, just like Victor. Victor was not protecting Elizabeth, he was protecting himself and the future of their relationship.
ReplyDeleteYes the truth should be told in any type of way : whether you in a relationship or not? Everybody say that the truth will set you free but not always . The truth will always hurt you at the end of the day. Victor did what was right for them both of them at the end of the. Victor didn't tell Elizabeth the truth because the fear and pain inside and outside.

ReplyDeleteAlthough the truth is an important factor in every situation, it is not always needed. The individuals that know the truth have the right to decide if the truth should be revealed. The truth can sometimes ruin relationships, and sometimes the other party is solely trying to protect the other person. Yes, Victor obscured the lie in order to protect Elizabeth. He may have kept the truth for a long time in fear of Elizabeth's reaction. Victor wanted to keep the relationship that he had with Elizabeth thriving.
ReplyDeleteThe truth is something that can’t always be handled. It is up to the truth holder whether or not they feel the receiver can handle the truth. Sometimes the truth is too much for people, they might be over whelmed by the content within the truth. On the other hand telling a lie differs from the truth, only if they find out that the lie was a lie, then the truth will hurt. The only thing different is if you explain to them why you lied and how you only did it to protect them, then they might understand your reason for withholding the truth. I personally try to keep it as real as possible with people, because I would want them to keep it real with me.
ReplyDeleteTruth is always needed it helps maintain trust between the two party's and allows both to help each other.
ReplyDeleteVictor held the truth from Elizabeth because he was trying to protect her from the monster by keeping the truth from her. Little did he realize by keeping the truth he was actually putting her in danger.
